Once Upon a Time in Qatar
We all know that the state of Qatar is an independent Arab emirate
occupying the Qatar peninsula on the northern coast of the Arabian
Peninsula. But what not many people know is that in the early times,
the peninsula was ruled by many dynasties and with the appearance
of Islam, Qatar became one of the earliest places occupied by Muslims.
After being ruled by the Ottoman Empire, for centuries, and then
Britain from the First World War, Qatar became an independent state
on September 3, 1971.
Historically, the country witnessed various cultures and civilisations
in various phases in the history of mankind even during the Stone
Age or Neolithic period.
Now get ready for this interesting discovery! A 4th millennium BC
site which was uncovered at Shagra, in the South-east of Qatar revealed
the key role the sea (Gulf) played in the lives of Shagra’s inhabitants.
There was also a barter trade system between the settlements at Qatar
and the Ubaid Mesopotamia. Exchange of commodities was mainly pottery
and dried fish.
